Hebrews 10:9
Hebrews 10:9
"Here I am, I have come to do Your will."
As the heavenly review of mankind’s miserable, fallen state became clear so the ineffectiveness of the animal sacrifices was put into perspective. They could never solve the problem of sin; they could offer temporary absolution but only for unintentional sins. They could not save men from death or offer eternal salvation and hope. The entire system was riddled with inadequacies but put in place by God to show the world that we can do nothing to save ourselves. Therefore, Jesus Christ steps up to the plate and says to His Father, “This arrangement is not working, as we know, it is time to set aside the sacrificial system once and for all. “Here I am, I have come to do Your will.” In other words, “Let’s put a stop to this endless procession of pointless rituals, it has served its purpose. Now is the time, the time for me to fulfil the task that we always knew must come to pass. It will cause us both incredible pain and anguish but at the end, the Satan will be defeated, sins will be permanently washed away, death will be overcome and Your chosen people will be set free. The earth will be as You always hoped it would be and I will show mankind what it means to live under the rule and reign of God, the way You always intended.”
The sacrifice of Christ was perfect; He was fully in submission to His Father’s will when He came to our world. He knew the implications for Himself and for mankind and chose to be brutally slaughtered as the ultimate sacrifice for sin. Consequently, no more sacrifices and offerings are necessary, the rituals of the Temple priests have been fulfilled, and all men and women may know the salvation of the Lord. As a further consequence, we will never die in our sins, we will live forever with Him. You couldn’t make it up, could you? No other religion deals with sin and death, and no other faith presents a God who would go to such lengths to save His people. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
