Hebrews 10:7
Hebrews 10:7
"Here I am!"
Notice that these verses are a direct quote from Psalm 40 and are attributed to Jesus Christ Himself, as if it were He who wrote the Psalm! It was in fact, King David who wrote Psalm 40 but the beauty of God’s Word is that it is timeless, David could never have understood the full implications of his writings, but as the Holy Spirit guided His pen, so a detailed and unbreakable link was being made with Yeshua and events that would take place 1,000 years later!
One of the inarguable facts of history is that Jesus was born a Jew. His family tree was Jewish, on both parents’ sides. His coming was promised in the Torah, prophesied by the seers, anticipated by the priesthood and lauded in the Psalms. All the history of ancient Israel was a preparation for His coming. The Scriptures, given to men, set the scene and described the events, the entire nation of Israel was on tenterhooks for centuries as the people awaited their Messiah. Jesus had to be born a Jew, it was “written about Him in the scroll.” This is another debt that the world owes to the Jews but, of course, one that the Satan would seek to obscure and so the world cannot love these people but is deceived into hating them.
There is another outstanding aspect to this quotation from David’s Psalm for we are being made aware of the humble, submission of Christ to His Father’s will. He was not dragged screaming into the world and then forced to obey His Father. Jesus volunteered! He came willingly. He laid aside His heavenly roles and offered Himself up to save mankind. He freely, and knowingly, came to earth to destroy the devil’s works, to release mankind from the chains of sin, to liberate men from death and to make the way for human beings to have an eternal relationship with their Creator. All of this was done of His own accord, no wonder His Father said of Jesus Christ, “This is my beloved Son, in who I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:17. And all of this was driven by love, love for His Father but also love for you and me. And most of mankind chooses to despise and reject Him!! His name is blasphemed across the world. How ignorant is that?
