Hebrews 4:13

Hebrews 4:13

Nothing is hidden from God's sight

This verse is full of comfort and hope, but it also rings an alarm bell for those of us who have something to hide! We have already considered the fact that God sees and knows everything about us, there is no place we can go, and no shelter we can inhabit, that puts us beyond the scope of the all-seeing eye of the Lord God. Psalm 33:13-15 tells us, “From heaven the Lord looks down and sees all mankind; from his dwelling place he watches all who live on earth – He who forms the hearts of all, who considers everything they do.” The Lord God does not restrict His scrutiny to just human beings, He watches over the whole of creation and He sees everything. The reason is given to us here; God is not just nosey or even a devoted Father watching over His children, He is a just God and if He is to deal justly with us all then He must be cognizant of all the facts! (For A.I substitute D.I.= Divine intelligence!) One part of me is delighted by this awareness that He has, another part is ashamed. He knows us all, He knows our faults, our failings and our sins as well as our successes. At some point we will be judged by Him, there are only a few exceptions - those who by faith have accepted that Yeshua took our punishment and suffered God’s judgement in our place. That judgment is death and no one can escape it. That is why Jesus had to die – He died for us so that we might not die but escape the punishment that our sins deserve.

Can we imagine what it will be like to stand before this God and try to account for our disobedience and rebellion against Him? What right does He have to judge us? Who is He that He thinks that we are accountable to Him? Well, He created us, He created our world and allowed us to live in it, and He is God and He has every right to evaluate how we treated Him and His creation during our short timespan on this planet. If we believe that, then we must eagerly reach out to His Son, Yeshua, and take the offer of salvation that He willingly provides for us. The alternative is to try to put together a defence that will justify our actions and appease Almighty God, to give Him an account of our behaviour. It’s a no-brainer, isn’t it?
