Psalm 147:19

He has revealed His Word

After all that we have read and mused upon in recent days; we now come to the crux of this song of praise. It is the revelation of God through His Word. Creation is wonderful and we have thought about many of its different aspects, but the unique gift of God is His Word, this is the only means by which we can begin to know Him and determine His will. 

The emphasis is on the fact that He initially gave His Word to Jacob and His laws and decrees to Israel. All of the Old Testament was written for and to the Jews, every New Testament writer was Jewish, Jesus Christ was a Jew, without them we would not have the revelation of God’s Word. We owe Israel big time, even though they have been lax in keeping God’s truth and even sharing it, although what would the world be like without the passion and courage of the early Apostles? 

The underlying truth is that God loves to share Himself with the human race, and the best method is to use language that can be understood and that corresponds with the thinking and understanding of men and women. So, He speaks and His words are recorded and thus we have our Bible, the revealed Word of God. In it are timeless truths and a wealth of wisdom and knowledge that no one will ever fully grasp even if the Bible is the only book they ever read. 

What is most amazing is that just as the Word was given specifically to Israel, it has now been revealed to the whole world, the Jews were the initial recipients but now every man and woman alive is addressed. The greatest truth is that this book was written in such a way that it is deeply personal to everyone who reads it. It is as if God gave His Word just for me!! This is His personal love letter to us and what the Lord wishes to say specifically to us is part of every chapter and verse. Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Psalm1:5       Our earthly journey will allow us, at times, to stand with the redeemed in holy awe and worship exhilarated by the presence of our Father.  In the Psalmists’ day these “assemblies of the righteous” would have been joyful times of worship at God’s sanctuary where music played, choirs sang and the people joined in the excitement and corporate wonder of being together in God’s presence.
