Psalm 147:18

Master of the Universe!

What lovely words these are!! They reveal to us a God who is completely in control of everything, even the weather! It is so arrogant of men to think that they are able to organise and administer the climate. It is only godless people who think that way, we have no control, we cannot melt hailstones or snowfalls, we are not able to manipulate the seasons or the activity of the sun and moon and the speed at which the earth spins on its axis. For all their lack of knowledge and scientific know-how, the ancients were in a far better place than us, they had wisdom above knowledge and could give credit for all patterns of weather to the One who created the earth and who controls its climate. 

What an uplifting verse this is, it describes the transition from winter to spring and in the north of Israel, the snows of Mount Hermon melt every year, and waters flow down to the River Jordan to irrigate the land and to provide for humans and animals. These things are God’s doing. Rather than trying to work it all out ourselves, we need to trust less in human ingenuity and more in the Creator God who invented all the conditions to maintain life. The more we reject Him as a human race, the worse climate change will become! Give the Lord the credit He is due and so many of the problems that the world faces today will fade into insignificance. Sadly, that is not the way our world thinks, and all the signs are that few will turn and acknowledge the One who created all things and who is the true “Master of the Universe.”

Psalm 1:2-3 If for some, evil is a source of delight, then the converse is the man or woman who delights in the teaching of the Lord.  Such a one meditates on the Scriptures day and night.  As a younger man I confess that meditating on Scripture day and night seemed to be a bit of a chore! Psalm1:5       Our earthly journey will allow us, at times, to stand with the redeemed in holy awe and worship exhilarated by the presence of our Father.  In the Psalmists’ day these “assemblies of the righteous” would have been joyful times of worship at God’s sanctuary where music played, choirs sang and the people joined in the excitement and corporate wonder of being together in God’s presence. If our own church worship is anything, it should be a prelude to the time when we will join with a numberless throng and sing the praises of the Lamb and the One who sits upon the throne of heaven.
