Hebrews 9:28

Hebrews 9:28

The bringer of salvation

There are two stand – out things that Christ Jesus has done that completely changes the course of history and the lives of everyone who genuinely believes in Him. Firstly, the sin problem that decides our destiny at death, has been resolved, literally, once and for all. the verse before us does not say that He covers our sin or hides them or heals them, it clearly states that he was “sacrificed once to take away the sins of many.” They are gone! Our sins have been taken away forever, if we believe. This is not for all, or even a few but for many! There are large numbers of human beings who have lived and died in the past who believed in the sacrificial offering of Yeshua and because of their faith, their sins have been taken away. As Paul points out in Romans 3, “it’s just as if I never sinned.”  The death problem that we talked about in the previous verse is settled, we may leave this world in the certain knowledge that we are good enough for the life to come, that the doors of heaven are open and that God will receive us. Christ has made the way.

There follows an amazing promise to tease us all! Jesus is going to return to earth, not as the sin bearer but “to bring salvation to those who are waiting for Him!” We do not have to panic as death approaches or seek to make ourselves good enough for the life that awaits beyond death, Christ has done it all. By taking away our sins, He has made it possible for those who are waiting for Him to enter the life that lies beyond the grave, eternal life. For us, death is just the beginning, an open door that ushers in His kingdom. And whilst we are still alive, we wait for Him, in anticipation, with certainty and incredible hope. There are only two comings of Christ to this earth, once as a man to be our sacrificial Lamb, secondly, to bring eternal salvation to those who believe. The Israelites used to await for their High Priest to emerge from the Most Holy Place on the Day of Atonement, when He did they knew that their sins were covered. We too await the return of our High Priest and when He does appear, we will know that our sins are atoned for and our salvation is complete. Hallelujah!  Hallelujah
