Hebrews 10:11
Hebrews 10:11
Standing to perform
This verse goes on to expand on what we have already been told. Notice that our attention is deliberately drawn to the fact that the ancient Jewish priests always stood as they performed their duties. The act of sitting down symbolised the fact that a task had been completed, the job had been done, it need not be repeated. As we shall see, this is the case with Yeshua! However, for the priesthood, the same old routines had to be performed day after day, there was never an end to it, it was generally understood that these relentless religious duties could not be terminated until Messiah came. And come He did and the Temple was destroyed and the pointless sacrificial system was ended.
How tragic that some Jews today still long and plan for the revival of the sacrifices, the priesthood and the Temple, for those who think this way show that they still do not accept the status and purpose of Jesus Christ and His sacrifice! Even though He is one of them and came initially to them! If only they could see, it would change the whole purpose and character of the nation. It will happen, one day, “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for Him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for Him as one grieves for a firstborn son. On that day the weeping in Jerusalem will be as great as the weeping of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.” Zechariah 12:10-11.
We thank and praise God for those Jews who accept Yeshua as their Messiah and who are unapologetic in their worship of Him. We thank Him too for opening our Gentile eyes and honouring us with access to the benefits and consequences of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, once for all.
