Hebrews 7:20-21

Hebrews 7:20-21

Appointed with an oath!

When the Levitical priesthood was established under Moses and Aaron, through the exacting demands of the Law, there was no oath to accompany the Covenant promises. God did not swear that He would uphold this system forever. However, we saw in chapter 6:13-19 that when the Lord God established His covenant relationship with Abraham and promised him many descendants, He did so by swearing by His own name. The same assurances are given in relation to the appointment of Jesus Christ as High Priest. God has decreed, He will never change His mind, the guarantee of the authenticity of this appointment is in the name of the guarantor. This is meant to impress the world of humanity, and it means that whenever our Lord and Saviour’s directions are sworn by an oath they should never be questioned.

However, there is another side to this, for the rise to power of Yeshua sent shock waves around the spiritual realms. The Satan and his cohorts know who they are dealing with and that the throne of heaven has elevated Him to a position far above the authority that the devil wields on earth. He may carry out his petty assignations in the world, he may question the authority of the Lord God and seek to win over the hearts and minds of men, but he will never be able to challenge the rule and authority of God’s right-hand man, the High Priest of heaven! “The Lord has sworn and will not change His mind: “You are a priest forever.” The reason that this does not go down well in the courts of the Adversary is that only God can create and give life, the Satan’s one intent is to destroy it. If God appoints someone to a role forever, there is absolutely nothing that His enemies can do to change it and death most assuredly has no power over Yeshua. Let us never forget, the Satan may have some authority on earth, in fact Jesus called him “the prince of this world,” (John 14:30). but He has no influence in the Courts of Heaven. There is an unbridgeable chasm between being a prince in this world and being the King and High Priest of heaven! We should never underestimate this fact. When God chooses to send His Son back to earth to rule and reign, there is nothing that the Satan can do to stop Him! Armageddon is already sorted! Hallelujah!
