Hebrews 3:13

Hebrews 3:13

Today!

There will come a date in history, when the Lord God will judge this world and all who have ever lived in it. There are grounds to believe that all true followers of Messiah will face His judgement in the sense that we will be made accountable for our lives and at that time various rewards will be handed out. The catastrophic Judgement Day that the whole unbelieving world will have to face is described in Revelation 20 where it is referred to as “the great white throne.” On that day the dead will be judged and those whose names are not found in the Book of Life will be thrown into the lake of fire. That terminal moment in Scripture is often referred to as “the Day “or “Judgement Day” or the “Day of the Lord.” The period of time leading up to this is called collectively, “the last days”.

It follows that when the expression “Today” is used it is not speaking of the end times but the present day, the day when we all still have the opportunity to hear God’s voice and to respond to the Gospel. This present time of God’s favour will come to an end, time has limits, the day of justice looms ahead, the whole world and all those who have gone before us will be judged and punished for their rebellion and disobedience. Therefore “Today” is a very important time, it is still the day of opportunity, even though world events seem to be suggesting that the human race cannot continue to ignore its Creator for very much longer. Rejoice that it is still “Today”, encourage one another that you are (hopefully) reading this in a span of time that God still calls “Today”. The challenge for us all is that we must not allow ourselves to be “hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” We’ve all sinned, we’ve all fallen short, we can all identify weaknesses in our character and behaviour. The deceitfulness of sin is that it exposes those weaknesses and seeks to increase their influence over our lives. So, the man who once gratified His lusts by looking at a porn magazine, becomes hardened into pursuing perverted sex and allowing His mind to be constantly filled with evil desires. The further we allow our sinful lusts to take us, the more we become “hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.” It is time to turn away while it is still called “Today.” Encourage one another, for time is short and the day of God’s favour is still with us. Hallelujah!
