Hebrews 2:14

Hebrews 2:14

Death is broken!

t’s amazing to consider what Jesus was prepared to go through in order to become identified with us as humans. If we are the children of God and potentially the brothers and sisters of Yeshua, then we must be born like Him and become like Him! That is physically and spiritually impossible for there is no human way of elevating ourselves to His status. So instead, He lowered Himself to ours, He became human and shared in our humanity. The only things that are common to all human beings are birth and death, neither of which we have any control over (unless you believe in abortion, suicide or euthanasia!). Jesus chose to become like us, to be born as a human amongst us and then to face the greatest horror of them all, the grasping, inevitable tentacles of death. Death is the ultimate penalty for sin, it is not the unavoidable price of being human, we were NOT created by God to die! Paul puts it like this, “Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned.”

The Satan, of course, is intent on ensuring that we all sin so that we have to bear the penalty of sin, which is death. The only human who refused to be induced was Jesus Christ, therefore He died a death that was not earned, He should have carried on living – to this day! Think about it, He had done nothing to deserve death, it had no hold over Him, the only way He could die was voluntarily! Which is why, He allowed Himself to be put to death and in so doing, He broke the power of the Satan because He contracted with God to allow His death to be substituted for ours, His brothers and sisters, and all who are children of God. Death is conquered and the power of death no longer hangs over those who accept Him by faith. The devil cannot hold it against us because Christ has taken the penalty away! He enables us to live forever in the way that God always intended. Isn’t that amazing, almost unbelievable, and definitely impossible to fully understand? But let us be in no doubt about how treasured and loved we are and how much Yeshua would go through so that He could redeem the children of God, His brothers and sisters. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
