Hebrews 2:13
Hebrews 2:13
I will put my trust in Him
The words quoted in this verse come directly from Isaiah 8:17-18. “I will wait for the Lord, who is hiding His face from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my trust in Him. Here am I, and the children the Lord has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the Lord Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion.” These words were written by the prophet at a time of great anxiety and upheaval in the land of Israel, Isaiah was well aware of the looming threat of the Assyrian army who were soon to invade the northern kingdom. In the midst of this turmoil, the prophet comforted Ahaz, the king of Judah in the south, and in fact Isaiah fathered a son at this time whom he called Maher-Shalal-Hash-Baz which mean “Quick to the plunder.”
The words from Isaiah 8, quoted above, are taken by the writer of Hebrews and attributed to Jesus. We are being told that He put His trust and dependence in the Lord God. Jesus was the fulfilment of everything that God had created mankind to be, He lived a perfect life because that was His purest intention for us. Everything that Jesus said and did was a reflection of His Father and a demonstration of the potential of all those who were, and are, created in God’s image. Jeus is a glowing example of the capacity that is latent within every human being. Jesus is able to stand before His Father and gather us around Himself and say, “Here am I, and the children the Lord has given me.” The children being; - you and me – His brothers and sisters! We are given to Yeshua as God’s children, to be His brothers and sisters. He is not to walk alone as the Son of God, everyone who accepts Him by faith is an additional sibling in His heavenly family. That is why He loves us so much and stands with us as our big brother! And whilst the armies of the enemy forces gather menacingly around us and threaten the world’s stability, we may say, “I will put my trust in Him.” Hallelujah!
