Hebrews 2:10

Hebrews 2:10

We are His sons and daughters

What an amazing statement this is! It begins by reminding you and I about our true relationship with our Father, God. We are His sons and daughters! (The Old Testament would just say "sons") John puts this so succinctly in the opening verses of his Gospel, “Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God – children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.” John 1:12-13. I am His son! You are His child! John cannot contain himself as he writes later about this glorious honour, “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him. Dear friends, now we are children of God and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” 1 John 3:1-2.

These verses hint at something amazing to come, something that no human writer can express in words because it has not yet been made known. Hebrews simply says that God will bring His sons and daughters to glory – whatever that means! I can’t wait, can you? How did the Lord accomplish this astounding, miraculous transformation in you and me? It was because Jesus Christ came as our pioneer or champion, He came to those of us who were slaves to sin and death and through his perfection and his suffering we have been set free! The Satan held the power of death and was ready to use it against us, sin had sealed our fate until Jesus willingly suffered our death for us. Because He was, and is, perfect, death could not hold Him. And now it cannot enslave us either! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!
