Psalm 148:4

Psalm 148:4

Even the clouds praise Him!

God is so carefully maintaining and managing our planet that even the depths of the great oceans and the moisture held by the clouds are under His command! The great masses of rain-filled clouds that journey around the earth are not just random phenomenon that can be rationally explained, they have a purpose, they work to a divinely conceived plan. They are the waters that fill God’s storehouses or cisterns, that are emptied and filled above the earth’s crust as He commands and calculates what, where and when they should operate. So, the clouds are the “deep” above us and they pour out their contents to fill our rivers and streams that eventually flow to the oceans which are the “deep” below. It’s only as I read these verses that I realise afresh just how fundamental to our existence the divine management of the planet really is. Again, it throws doubts over the claims that climate change is caused solely by man’s abuse of the earth and its resources. Yes, there is evidence that abuse of our planet brings consequences, but the Bible seems to suggest that, actually, the causes are heavenly and spiritual and not instigated by humans.

Because all of these elements are under God’s control and management it follows that they are prompted to offer Him praise. Just by the fact that they are obedient to His will, in itself means that His Name is glorified. We are beginning to see, more and more, how our planet is in tune with its Maker and thus able to ensure that He is worshipped. The simple actions of the heavenly bodies that traverse our night skies, sing out to all observers that God is on his throne and therefore to be praised. Let’s never take any of these things for granted or be arrogant enough to think they are completely subject to human control or intervention. Hallelujah!
