Psalm 135:13

Psalm 135:13

The power of His Name

There are two things here in this verse that resonate throughout the earth and have done so from the beginning of creation and will do so forever: - the name of the Lord, and the renown of the Lord. The use of the name of the Lord varies throughout the earth; to some it is a swear word, a curse and a name to be invoked often and indiscriminately, without care or thought. For others, the name of the Lord is of no consequence whatsoever; it may be used occasionally, rarely in a complimentary way, it’s just a name and has no significance. For those who believe, the names of our God and His glorious Son are the most precious words that ever pass through our lips; our tongues and voices were made to shout those names, to sing them and to exalt them.

What a divergence of opinion! What an enigma, that a few names should mean so much to one group of people and be a curse to others. When you think about it, the name of the Lord is the single most divisive factor in the history of humanity! It still divides; it divides nations, religions, continents, families, marriages and individuals. There is nothing more beautiful than His name but to some it is the focus of all that is evil and ugly in the world. His name is either a blessing or a curse, and it defines what we believe and who we are. Let’s just think about our use of His name and when we are next with other believers, let’s praise and exalt that wonderful name. Let is lift up the name of our God or of Yeshua, His Son, especially as their names will endure forever. One day we will be forgotten on earth, our names will mean nothing, the names of the prominent figures throughout human time are condemned to the pages of history books, but the name of the Lord remains, He is as powerful and celebrated today as He has ever been. He is the immortal One, the Creator and overseer of all living things.

It follows that the Lord has great renown or reputation throughout the earth, He is either loved, admired and obeyed, or hated, cursed and reviled. His name and renown define us all. What do you think of Him?
