Psalm 121:7

He watches over you

Most of us probably don’t give it too much thought, but we were chosen by God before the foundation of the world. (Ephesians 1:4). We are not here by accident but by design. God oversaw our journey into this world and watched with tenderness as we took our first breath and probably shrieked with confusion and bewilderment at the same time! We were meant to be here, alive on this planet for such a time as this. No doubt, many of us can look back and see countless occasions when someone seemed to be in charge, that our lives took an unexpected turn, and it was for our good. If we think we know all about these things, we are fooling ourselves, the actual number of times when the Lord has intervened or taken control is way beyond our wildest dreams. He watches over us all, all those He has chosen and who believe in Him by faith. He guards and protects us. He provides for us. He arranges events and encounters for our benefit, and He guides us to the right places and right people at the right time. He is amazing!

Some may argue, “Well if that is true, don’t I get a say in this?” Yes, we all do, we can choose to obey Him and work with Him or rebel and do it our way. If I’m honest, I’d rather not have a say, He always seems to know best! But, as humans, we have to put up with the fact that we have free will. Israel, as a nation, was guided and directed, the Lord always had a plan for them, but they constantly made their own decisions, failed to consult Him, lacked faith and subsequently went off track and had to face the consequences. We have the same choices, but the Lord continues to keep us from harm, and He watches over our lives. Everywhere you and I go today. Everyone we meet. Every conversation. Every thought. Every tiny detail is known to Him and that is why He takes great pleasure when we stop and say, “Thank You!”

Psalm 119:135

Psalm 119:135 His shining face In verse 58 0f the Psalm we commented on the apparent impossibility of being able to see the face of God. And yet this intimacy was something that the psalmists, and other writers, craved. The High Priestly blessing, prayed over the people every day, asks that the Lord make His face shine upon them. In verse 58 we discovered that this plea involved more than just being able to see the face of God, which was impossible; I quote,  “ The Hebrew word for face in the Old Testament can be translated “presence.” Now things start to make more sense! Those Israelites who so regularly abandoned the Lord God were being reminded to seek again the presence of God and the psalmist lets it be known that this is his constant quest.
