Psalm 119:168
Psalm 119:168
The God who knows all
Most criminals and persistent wrong-doers gamble on not being caught or found out. Drug gangs, con-men, scammers etc. have turned evil into a business, they act with impunity in the belief that they are accountable to no one and it’s very bad luck if they are discovered and apprehended by the “law.” People who behave like this usually have no concept of God, of good and evil, of the effect of their actions on others or of the consequences of their behaviour. They think only of themselves and how they might prosper from their activities.
I suppose that it would be pointless to advise such evil-doers that every word, thought and action of every human being is being recorded. That there is the equivalent of a satellite in the heavens, and it watches the behaviour of us all and nothing gets missed. Our daily activities are scrutinised, every event is recorded, all that is bad or good is noted and is documented, and there is not one individual who has ever lived who escapes this scrutiny. As the psalmist says to the Lord God, “All my ways are known to You.”
Even for those of us who believe in God’s salvation, the thought that He knows everything about us is rather terrifying, but then this is serious business, our God is a consuming fire, a God of justice and righteousness, He owns this planet and everything on it, why should He not hold us accountable for our behaviour? That is why the author of the Psalm sets such great store by the statutes of the Lord, for Him the knowledge of them and the keeping of them was his only means of appeasing the wrath of the Almighty God. We cannot live as we please. We are accountable as human beings. The Word of God is vital to our survival for it is the only means of knowing what is right and what is evil in His sight.
