Psalm 148:14
Psalm 148:14
Close to His heart
The phrase “He has raised up for His people a horn” has been used before in the Psalms. “Horn” symbolises strength and power, so when the psalmist tells us that the Lord has raised up a horn for His people, it usually means an anointed person or persons. In other words, the nation is in a good place because the Lord has appointed someone to lead them and protect them, He has given them strong leadership. In the psalmists’ language this usually referred to King David and the royal family who found their ultimate fulfilment in Christ, their Messiah. The stronger the leadership of a nation, the stronger are the people who live in it, here referred to as “all His faithful servants.”
It follows that Christ is our horn and therefore His church should be the strongest and most powerful nation on earth! It also follows that all true believers should grasp the completeness of who He is and who they are as faithful servants. What a privilege it is to be part of this body and to serve the King of kings and Lord of lords! He is enthroned as the Holy One, and He will reign over the earth with righteousness and justice.
The psalm has taught us that all creation worships the Lord and does His bidding and in that He is glorified. The only dissidents appear to be humans, and we too are encouraged to join in the outpourings of praise that are being offered daily from all corners of the planet. The Psalm ends with one, final thought, it reminds us that it is Israel who are close to God’s heart and that they remain as part of His future plans and, being close to His heart, we know that this troubled nation is still loved and protected by their God. Praise the Lord.
