Psalm 146:8
Psalm 146:8
The Lord loves the righteous
Here are three more examples of the compassion and mercy of the Lord: -
1. He gives sight to the blind
2. He lifts up those who are bowed down
3. He loves the righteous.
Once again, we can easily find examples of how Jesus fulfilled these characteristics of the Lord God. Numerous blind people received their sight from Him, others who were bowed down, He lifted up. Luke 13:10-13; “On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.”
The problem of the righteous is a little more complex. There were many who were righteous, living at the time of Christ. They obeyed God’s laws to the “enth” degree, they studied the Scriptures fastidiously, their public behaviour was irreproachable and to the watching masses, these were righteous men. To Jesus however, they were nothing but hypocrites. He knew their heart, their motives, their secret thoughts and their righteousness was nothing more than a very clever act, it fooled their contemporaries but not Him.
Let’s be very careful about the exterior façade that we parade in public, it can easily become a matter of pride and self-aggrandisement and while others may not see through us, the Lord does. Better to be a humble man or woman with faults than to be a hypocrite. This is one of the beautiful things about Jesus, He had no faults, but He was not hypocritical, He never paraded His perfection, He never displayed pride in His sinlessness, He never gave anyone room to think that He was better than them, in fact His whole life was dedicated to serving those who were worse off in some way. Hallelujah!
