Psalm 145:20
Psalm 145:20
Whose camp are we in?
Once again, we are confronted by the distinction that the Lord makes between those who are wicked and those who love Him. We are all aware of this division, but how does it work out in the eyes of a heavenly God who “loves all people?” We are all His creation, we all have the gift of life from Him, we are all born into a world that is designed to give everyone the same benefits and advantages. There is only one God and Creator of all, and we humans are designed by Him to live in His creation and to love and obey Him or, to live independently. This is the rub. There are those who are aware of His presence and His over-riding authority and glory, and these people acknowledge Him and see the benefits of obedience and service. Over time this turns into love because, daily, the wonders of His provision and protection grow. Just as a new-born baby remains in the care of its parents out of dependency, so that child will grow to appreciate their love and their care and then in turn learn to reciprocate the love of “mum and dad.” That is how it works with God, the longer we experience His love and care, the more we learn to love Him in return.
It follows that those who could not care less about the great Creator who gave them life, those who curse Him, blame Him, despise Him and conceive every possible means of keeping Him at a distance or from influencing their lives, these people are the wicked. They spend an inordinate amount of time trying to conceive ways to ignore God and to convince others that He doesn’t even exist! Their whole lives are lived in rebellion and self-interest, instead of benefitting from the wonders and provision of the created world, they constantly seek to use it for their own benefit. All the while they are aided and abetted by the Prince of this world, the devil himself. So, whose side are we on? It’s not possible to have feet in both camps. Do we really love the Creator? If so, He watches over us. Do we abuse His name and His intervention and influence? Then our prospects are very poor, because, ultimately He will destroy us! No brainer, isn’t it?
