Psalm 140:2

Psalm 140:2

Devisers of evil

There is a certain kind of person who continuously plots evil. Psalm 36:4 says, “Even on their beds they plot evil; they commit themselves to a sinful course and do not reject what is wrong.” Proverbs 6:12-14 talks about “A troublemaker and a villain, who goes about with a corrupt mouth, who winks maliciously with his eye, signals with his feet and motions with his fingers, who plots evil with deceit in his heart – he always stirs up conflict.” Isaiah broadens the picture by describing corrupt institutions and even nations where, “No one calls for justice; no one pleads a case with integrity. They rely on empty arguments, they utter lies; they conceive trouble and give birth to evil.” Isaiah 59:4.

The problem is that we live in so-called times of cultural tolerance where excuses are made for those who are evil, and are brainwashed into believing it is not fair and right to point the finger. Devious practices are accepted in all areas of life and people are simply deemed to be “playing the system” when they continuously break the rules for their own benefit. One thing society tells us we cannot do, is label another person as being evil, instead we make excuses and give reasons for their behaviour, “they have a mental illness or are scarred by events in their childhood etc.” To be fair, there are many people who suffer in these ways but there are also many who are inherently evil. The Bible, as the verses above show, calls out evil for what it is, and in truth, some people are deformed and twisted by wickedness and are completely under the control of demonic forces. We do not know why, but we do know that they need deliverance or, as Proverbs says, “Disaster will overtake him in and instant; he will suddenly be destroyed – without remedy.” Proverbs 6:15. It’s a difficult subject, but we’ve all had contact with people who “devise evil plans and who stir up war every day,” the world is full of them, some in positions of great power!
