Psalm 139:16

The heavenly Register

As we have seen, nothing is hidden from the Lord our God. Forget about pre-natal, ultrasound scans, another set of eyes was watching us from the moment of conception. God knew us long before even our mothers were aware that we had been conceived! Isn’t it lovely to think of those eyes watching with pleasure as another life begins its short journey through time, and in each case, the Lord already has a plan and a purpose for this new life that He has granted. Perhaps there is a Register somewhere in which each arrival, and departure, is recorded?

You see, God does not only monitor our birth into the world, but He also designates the time and date we will leave the world. There is extraordinary comfort in knowing that all of this is pre-planned, nothing is left to chance. Equally, we humans need to remember that we don’t really have a say in it, God knows exactly when we will leave this planet, and He also knows in what state we will leave it. Whether it will be in unbelief and rebellious disobedience or with growing faith and a longing to be in His presence. What an important choice this is that we all have to make, for our short time here will determine our destiny for all of eternity. 

This Bible verse seems to suggest that there are records kept, dates of birth and dates of death, and also the state of heart of each individual. A few decades ago, such records would have seemed impossible but now we have built machines on earth that can records billions of items of information and store this until it might be needed. God’s brain far exceeds the gigabyte capacity of even the most powerful computers and He also keeps very accurate records, nothing will be left to chance and no one is omitted. What a moment to stop and ensure that we have agreed to His terms for a guaranteed place in the Lamb’s Book of Life. Faith in Jesus Christ and repentance from our sins ensures that our future destiny is secure. Hallelujah!

Psalm 119:118

Psalm 119:118 Watch out for delusions! This verse is a tough one because it suggests that there are those who once followed the Lord’s decrees, but they have strayed and are now rejected by Him! The “decrees” of the Lord are His engraved statutes, for most of us symbolised best by the Ten Commandments. So, the suggestion is that there are those who once willingly and fervently followed these commands of God, but they have now strayed away from them. It’s actually easier than we might think, the early days of our faith journey were new and exciting, there was much to learn and a faith relationship with the Lord God opened up so many possibilities. Psalm 119:135

Psalm 119:135 His shining face In verse 58 0f the Psalm we commented on the apparent impossibility of being able to see the face of God. And yet this intimacy was something that the psalmists, and other writers, craved. The High Priestly blessing, prayed over the people every day, asks that the Lord make His face shine upon them.
