Psalm 138:5

Psalm 138:5

Sing of the ways of the Lord

The “ways of the Lord” are basically, twofold. To those who believe and who are counted as His children, God’s ways are ways of blessing, provision, protection and they are beneficial beyond imagination. His ways are righteous and just and eternal, they can never be fathomed but they are evident every single day of our lives, hence the great symphony of praise that wells up from the hearts of those who are the beneficiaries of His ways.

There is another side to this coin of course. To those who do not believe in our God, His ways are either deeply mysterious or so unlikely that there is no point in wasting time on their discovery. To the vast majority of people in our world, the better option to faith in YAHWEH is to worship objects or ideals that are perceived to be tangible and much more easily understood. For them it is better to have a god who is identifiable with the earth than some obscure being who exists in another realm. These people are scarily blind, for the character and attributes of the Lord are stamped on everything that He created which is why Paul states that men are without excuse. (Romans 1:20.)

David’s heart cry in this song is that the kings of the earth might have the veil removed and that they might catch a glimpse of the glory of the Lord, so much so that they would all start singing His praise. Imagine that at the next meeting of NATO or G7 or at a United Nations assembly! It has never happened but that’s not to say that it won’t! Zechariah prophesied that one day, when the millennium reign of Christ takes over this world, there will be times that the world’s leaders will converge on Jerusalem and celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. (Zechariah 14:16.) Maybe King David foresaw such a day and maybe we should pray that it will come to pass!
