Psalm 135:7

Psalm 135:7

He is Lord of our weather

The ancient Canaanites looked to Baal for their weather; he was called the Lord of Rain and Dew! The Bible presents a different picture. The glory of our God was trumpeted by thunderclaps that rumbled through the clouds of the winter rains that rose over the Mediterranean Sea and travelled east across Israel. God was present in storms, in earthquakes and in the mighty forces of the raging seas. Jeremiah asked the question, “Do any of the worthless idols of the nations bring rain? Do the skies themselves send down rain? No, it is You, Lord our God, therefore our hope is in You, for You are the One who does all this.” Jeremiah 14:22.

Zechariah 10:1 says, “Ask the Lord for rain in the springtime; it is the Lord who sends the thunderstorms. He gives showers of rain to all people, and plants of the field to everyone.”

When it comes to the weather for our daily needs, we can trust our God and He will provide.

In Scripture “wind” is always associated with “breath.” When the Holy Spirit was given at Pentecost He came with the “sound of a mighty, rushing wind.” There is something beautiful about the way that a breeze rustles the leaves in a tree, but the power of a gale can be truly frightening. All these forces are controlled by our God and this verse suggests that He holds the winds in His storehouses. You see, nothing on this planet works by chance. It is NOT a random, self-contained, self-controlled mass, orbiting the sun. It is a glorious, wonderfully designed creation that reacts to the commands of its Maker. It is God who sends and who manages it all! Rain, snow, hail or sunshine, He designed every minute detail of the earth’s weather systems, along with the intricate tools that control every aspect of our climate. That is why men are being shown that they have NO control, the causes of climate change may be initiated by men, but it is the Lord who is ultimately in control, He wrote the rules that govern creation, and the rules clearly dictate that we will suffer if we abuse them. The problem will never be solved by endless discussions about CO2 emissions; it requires repentance and faith. Something that is in very short supply, it seems!
