Psalm 119:32

Psalm 119:32

Running in His path

Whilst reading this Psalm, we need to understand that the Law of God was far more than a set of rules and regulations for the Israelites. God had called them to be His people, He had chosen them; as a consequence, they were to be distinct and set apart from all the other nations that surrounded them. They were unique and different; the word that the Bible uses, of course, is Holy. The giving of the Law was part of this sanctification process, here was the Owner’s Manual for His inheritance and the rules covered every aspect of their lives. By keeping God’s Law, the Israelites would reveal themselves to be set apart, they would cause other nations and peoples to look at them and ponder the wisdom and faithfulness of Yahweh. For some of the faithful followers of the Lord God and His commands, the Law became their foundation stone, their rock, the basis of all that they believed, and they sought to live it out to the full. Our writer was one such devotee, to emphasize this he talks about “running in the path of Your commands.” He was full of energy and life, He was in a hurry to pursue the ways of the Lord, his goal was not physical fitness but moral and spiritual fitness as he ran the marathon of God!

Like so many of us, the further and faster he ran the more he was amazed at the fulness and depth of the character and purposes of the Lord God. Every day was a feast, every mile was a revelation, every new flash of understanding was an incentive to keep running.

Let’s spend time with the Lord and with His Word so that we too may have our understanding broadened and become spiritually fitter and stronger in the process.
