Psalm 105:11

Psalm 105:11

To you I will give the land

We need to remember that the ancient land of Canaan had already appeared in the Scriptures long before the time of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. In Genesis 2:8 we read that, “the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there He put the man He had formed.” Eden was effectively Canaan and beyond, and the Garden was planted in the east of the land of Eden. The Lord Himself was present in that Garden and met there daily with Adam and his wife Eve, it was the most sacred place on earth! This is the land that was then promised to Abraham and his successors. Listen to the words spoken later, “The Lord said to Moses, “Command the Israelites and say to them: “When you enter Canaan, the land that will be allotted to you as an inheritance is to have these boundaries.”” The text goes on to describe the boundaries of the land that is to be possessed by Israel and they are very similar to the ancient boundaries of Eden!

Another thing that we need to remember is that the land of Canaan was allotted to Israel, it was never owned by them absolutely, in fact the Lord God commanded that, “the land must not be sold permanently, because the land is mine and you reside in my land as foreigners and strangers. Throughout the land that you hold as a possession, you must provide for the redemption of the land.” Leviticus 25:23-24.

So, modern Israel is still very much at the centre of God’s thoughts. It is still His land, and the Satan knows this. The descendants of Abraham, through Ishmael, gave rise to Muhammad around 600 years after Christ, who initiated a religion based on the same principles as the Jewish faith, being monotheistic, with one sacred text and rules and regulations not unlike the commandments. The nations of Islam now surround Israel completely and are as equally intent on regaining what they call “Palestine”, as the Jews are in remaining there. But it is to the Jews that God said, “To you I will give the land of Canaan as the portion you will inherit.” I wonder who is going to triumph in this spiritual tug of war?
