Psalm 104:27-28

Psalm 104:27-28

God feeds the creatures of His earth

These are breath-taking verses, they contrast the attitudes and activities of the creatures of the earth with the pursuits of mankind. Man works, toils and labours, using every hour of his days to produce food and to provide for himself. Most people are driven by greed and selfishness to accumulate wealth and possessions and to “look after No 1.” Contrast that with the creatures that live around us who “look to You to give them their food at the proper time.

This takes us back to Genesis 3:17-19 when God pronounced over Adam, “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you, and you will eat the plants of the field. By the sweat of your brow you will eat your food until you return to the ground, since from it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you will return.” Notice that the curse is upon the ground not on the living creatures. Notice also that it is Adam/man that is condemned to labour through painful toil to eat from it, whereas, according to the Psalm, the rest of the creatures are fed by God! Think about this, man has to provide for himself whereas all other living creatures are fed by the Lord who “opens His hand and satisfies them with good things”!

Jesus completely agreed with this and announced that there had been a radical change in the scheme of things; He encouraged His disciples to stop worrying about what they wear or what they eat and drink, because now their Heavenly Father would feed them and provide for them just as He does the living creatures. (Please read all of Matthew 6:25-34.) I find this mind-blowing and need time to digest it! Hallelujah!
