Psalm 96:3

Psalm 96:3

Declare His glory

This verse gives us two things that are to be proclaimed by our praises, the glory of the Lord and His marvellous deeds. These two sources of wonder are not to be kept under wraps or even contained under lock and key in our churches, they are to be declared to the nations and among all peoples. The whole world needs to hear of God’s glory and His marvellous deeds!

Wherever God is at work His glory is revealed. Creation reveals His glory. The heavens declare His glory. Out of the lips if children and babies God ordains praise and reveals His glory. Remember the words of the Apostle John at the opening of His Gospel? “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:14. Later, after Jesus had turned water into wine, John was to write, “What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of His signs through which He revealed His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.” John 2:11. In other words, whenever God acts, wherever He reveals Himself, we get a glimpse of His glory and these flashes of brilliance are to be shared with the whole world!

The Psalm writer goes further and tells us that these glorious revelations are given to us through the marvellous deeds of the Lord. In other words, they are events and acts that can be witnessed and recorded, they are seen and heard, they are the ways in which a glorious Being reveals Himself to His people and when we are privileged to experience these amazing moments of His glory, we shouldn’t keep quiet about it!
