Psalm 67:6

Psalm 67:6

God, our God, blesses us

It is only when we put God in His rightful place, on the throne of our hearts and minds, that we start to get a right perspective on all that is going on around us. For most people, the provision of harvest is just a seasonal benefit that passes. The productivity of the land is down to fertilizers, pest control and the hard work of the farmers. In the minds of most, the land will always be productive, it always has been, and science and country lore combined, provide us with all that we need. Some do not even go that far, they do not have a clue how food is produced, so long as the supermarket shelves are full, nothing else matters.

As believers, we have to have a different perspective. The land is fertile because the Lord made it so. It is an incredibly complex process and all farmers do is to work in harmony with the Creator. There would be no life, and no plants if it were not for God’s hand of provision, the land is not a conveyor belt that keeps rolling on forever, it has to be nurtured and tended and cared for if it is to produce cops. God sends the rain and the sun and the micro-organisms that are necessary for life. He sends the frosts and the dew, and He alone controls the output of the fields. There used to be recognition of this when countryfolk flocked into churches in September / October for Harvest Thanksgiving Services, but now these events are not so popular, we have forgotten the One who provides.

Let us be different. Give thanks today. Give thanks every day and every mealtime. Thank Him before you eat and after you have eaten. Look at the fields with wonder and amazement because every leaf of corn and every apple blossom and every grape hanging on a vine, is a gift from the God who blesses us.
