Psalm 63:2

Psalm 63:2

To be in Your presence

By now you will realise that the pinnacle of David’s spiritual experience is to be on Mount Zion, in Jerusalem, at the Tabernacle, where he could revel in the glory of his God and the immediacy of the Lord’s presence. This, to David, was holy ground, it was as near as any man might come to the Lord of lords. Forget about foreign dignitaries and royal palaces and the company of the good and the mighty, he would rather be alone in the sanctuary than be anywhere else on earth. It was in that place that David had seen the glory of God and had been overwhelmed by His power. It may have been just a tent with simple furniture, but it was the holiest place on earth.

Have we had those moments in our lives, moments of pure joy, of overwhelming glory, of a powerful sense of the presence of the Lord? We could not live like that all the time and, more often than not, our spiritual journey takes us through desert places, but God is not unaware of our longings. During the journey of faith there must be moments of pure joy, of inspiration, of unforgettable intimacy, these are glimpses of His glory, and we are allowed them to help us to keep pressing on and to remind us that the true Mount Zion lies ahead. But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.”Hebrews 12:22-24. The Bible tells us that if we seek Him, we shall find Him, if we seek with all our hearts. In other words, those moments of intense longing are rewarded and we know that our faith is not in vain. Hallelujah!

To be in your presence
To sit at your feet
When your love surrounds me
And makes me complete

This is my desire, O Lord
This is my desire
This is my desire, O Lord
This is my desire

To rest in your presence
Not rushing away
To cherish each moment
Here I would stay

This is my desire, O Lord
This is my desire
This is my desire, O Lord
This is my desire
