Psalm 62:8

Psalm 62:8

Pray without ceasing

We Christians can be such fickle creatures; something goes wrong, enemies are ganging up on us, our livelihood or our peace is threatened and after doing all we can, we remember that it might be a good idea to talk to the Lord about it! Funny isn’t it, how the world blames Him in an instant, “Oh God this and Oh God that”, whilst many believers use Him as a last resort? “When all else fails, I will pray to God!”  This verse appeals to us to “Trust Him at all times, you people.” In other words, consult with Him as a first resort and speak to Him as One who is with us through good and bad and who loves to hear from us 24/7, not just when things are going wrong.

I love the expression, “Pour out your hearts to Him.” Stiff-upper-lipped, British men despise those who wear their hearts on their sleeves and constantly tell all, to all. So, maybe such people do wear us down and they should reign it in at times, but that etiquette is not appropriate when it comes to our God. “Pour it out,” He cries, “Tell me everything, I never tire of hearing from you my child.” We have moved from using prayer as a last resort to praying at all times about everything. In Ephesians 6:8 Paul supports this injunction when he writes, “And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” Every need, every request, every problem, every solution, every concern, every fear and anxiety, no matter how trivial – can be brought to Him. You see, prayer is not something we do, confined to a time of day, or an hour in church once a week. Prayer is relationship, it is chatting to our Father at all times and about everything. Pour out your heart today, for God is your refuge. Hallelujah!
