Psalm 48:10

Psalm 48:10

Praise for His righteousness

Wherever God’s name is influential and there are those who believe in Him, then praise arises. Even creation is able to respond in praise, hence, “The trees of the field shall clap their hands and the mountains and the hills shall break forth with joy.” Isaiah 55:12. Jewish worshippers believed that all praise started with the Temple because that is where the Shekinah glory of God was. (Shekinah means His dwelling place or His Presence.) As human beings we are gifted to offer praise to the Lord primarily with our lips and with words and vocal expressions of glory and honour. This is a huge privilege, but it is only “praise” if it comes from believing hearts.

One of the grounds of our praise is that the right hand of God, the source of His power, authority and salvation, is filled with righteousness. All righteousness emanates from God alone, without Him the world would be full of darkness and evil, even more than it is now. To taste and experience the sweetness of His “right-ness’ is a beautiful thing and something to praise Him for.

Jesus Christ ascended to the right hand of the Lord God when He left this world after His resurrection. King David wrote about this moment in Psalm 110:1. He wrote, “The Lord, YHWH, (I was, I AM, I always will be) said to my Lord (Messiah), sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.” Jesus is at God’s right hand and He may be seated, but He is not resting. The right hand is a position of power, strength and salvation, as well as righteousness, in the Hebrew Scriptures. The left hand of God is calamity and judgement. We are meant to understand from this that Jesus Christ is still just as much God’s representative on earth as He was when He was physically here. He is still the source of power, strength and salvation through His church. He is NOT inactive! The faith and power of the church are His forces on earth. That is how His praise reaches to the ends of the earth. Hallelujah!
