Psalm 45:2

A bridegroom unlike no other!

A lot rides on appearances doesn’t it? If someone is excellent, they literally excel. One Bible version expresses the Psalmist’s description of the King as, “You are fairer than the children of men: grace is poured into your lips.”  The King described here was obviously good looking to the point where He was almost godlike. 1 Samuel 9:2 exalts Saul as a king who was, “as handsome a young man as could be found anywhere in Israel, and he was a head taller than anyone else.”Of David, a servant of Saul said, “I have seen a son of Jesse of Bethlehem who knows how to play the lyre. He is a brave man and a warrior. He speaks well and is a fine-looking man. And the Lord is with him.”

Obviously, the status of a king in those days, was embellished if he looked the part! Strangely, this did not seem to apply to our King, Jesus, in His earthly guise. Isaiah speaks of Him as, “Having no beauty, or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.” Isaiah 53:2. So, the traditional icons showing a fair-haired, blue-eyed, western  hunk are far from the reality, it was not the good looks of Jesus that attracted people, it was the grace that came from His lips and the blessing of Almighty God that rested upon Him. John paints a picture of King Jesus in Revelation 1:12-16 that surpasses the appearance of any earthly king, when we see Jesus clothed in glory and honour, there is no doubt in my mind that He will more than fit the description here in Psalm 45:2. And we are going to be part of His Wedding! Hallelujah! 



Revelation 19:5-10

5 Then a voice came from the throne, saying: “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both great and small!” 6 Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peals of thunder, shouting: “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. 7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come, and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.” (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of God’s holy people.) 9 Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!” And he added, “These are the true words of God.” 10 At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”

Psalm 74:16

Psalm 74:16 God established the sun and the moon “ In  the beginning   God created   the heavens   and the earth.   2  Now the earth was formless   and empty,   darkness was over the surface of the deep,   and the Spirit of God   was hovering over the waters. 3  And God said,   “Let there be light,” and there was light.   4  God saw that the light was good,   and he separated the light from the darkness.   5  God called   the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.”   And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day.” These, so familiar, words from Genesis 1 remind us of who is in charge! Psalm 71:17

Psalm 71:17 Since my youth ..... You have taught me I am reminded here of Paul’s words to Timothy.  “But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”  2 Timothy 3:14-15.  “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, lives in you also.”  2 Timothy 1:5. Timothy and David may well have enjoyed a similar upbringing. We know that Timothy’s mother was a Jewish Christian although his father was an unbelieving Greek. (Acts 16:1) It appears that the boy had a Christian grandmother also and, as Jewish boys began to study the Hebrew Scriptures at the age of five, Timothy would certainly have been taught by his mother and grandmother from infancy.
