Psalm 16:9
More than conquerors!
There is a beautiful passage of Scripture at the end of Moses’ blessing of the tribes of Israel, just before he died, found in Deuteronomy 33:26-29. I suspect that David had these words in mind as he completes verse 9. “There is no God like the God of Jeshurun (Israel), who rides across the heavens to help you and on the clouds in His Majesty. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. He will drive out your enemies before you, saying, “Destroy them!” So Israel will live in safety, Jacob will dwell secure in a land of grain and new wine, where the heavens drop dew. Blessed are you, Israel! Who is like you, a people saved by the Lord? He is your shield and your helper and your glorious sword. Your enemies will cower before you, and you will tread on their heights.” What a song for us who are redeemed by the Lord! What a comfort to know that if we believe this, then our enemies cannot harm us and we can rest secure. Say it out loud, “The Lord is my shield and my helper and my glorious sword. My enemies will cower before me, and I will tread on their heights.” The Satan has every trick in the book up his sleeve, to deceive and to distract and to destroy us but he cannot win. A greater King with a greater army is watching over us and we are more than conquerors! What an eye-opener this is as we realise that the Messiah Himself hung on to these words in His hours of travail at Golgotha so that He could let His body rest secure.
