Psalm 12:6
Pure Gold
Against this backdrop of faithlessness, lies, flattery, deception, hidden motives, false news, arrogance, twisted truths, power seeking and individual and corporate manipulation who can we believe? This verse has to be written out in full! “The words of the Lord are flawless, like silver purified in a crucible, like gold refined seven times.” These beautiful assurances drip with honey and sweetness and shine like a beam of light in an underground tomb. The ancient methods of extracting precious metals from crushed ore are still used today albeit on a much grander scale. In David’s time metallurgists knew that refined silver and gold could only be obtained by heating ore in a crucible, or furnace, to remove the sediment and traces of other metals. When comparing this process with the words that proceed from the mouth of the Lord, we find that He speaks with perfection, His words are like silver and gold refined seven times.  What comfort and yet what mighty power there is in His words for there is no dross, no ambiguity, no self-seeking and no deception. Everything He says is beautifully refined truth. This is the Word of God and right now we are studying it!! Do you find, like me, that your words are often tainted with self-interest, subjectivity and bias? Do you find, like me, that it is impossible for us to speak or write flawlessly? But the Lord ‘s words are pure in truth and absolutely faultless. That is why He is the only One we can believe in and that is why the Satan is to be disbelieved and ignored at all costs. Do not believe the clamouring voices of the politicians, the media, the influential, the celebrities, the philosophers, scientists and so-called wise men and women of this age. When facing the blackness of a lying world and the dark forces that control it, we are empowered by the words of the Lord and nothing can stand against Him.  That is why the early church prayed that they might speak the word with great boldness. Acts 4:29. They knew that every word was an arrow of explosive light and power aimed to directly hit the enemy’s stronghold, that is why the Satan tried so hard to shut them up! We don’t need weapons made of metal, and guns that kill and maim, we already have far more powerful armaments – the words of God! The Apostle Paul summed this up far better than I can in 2 Corinthians 10:3-6.
“For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience, once your obedience is complete.”
