Psalm 9:7
Throne of Judgement
Against the backdrop of the fickle nature of human civilisation David reminds us of the unchanging rule and reign of the Lord – He reigns forever. His ways never change, His kingdom cannot be taken.  There is only one ancient nation that has survived against all the odds, through the annals of history – God’s people, Israel. Where is this throne of judgement that is occupied by our righteous judge?  Psalm 11:4 tells us, “The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord is on his heavenly throne.”  That statement alone tells us that the historic conflicts on earth have a spiritual and out-of-this-world context. As Paul says in Ephesians 6:12, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”That is why it is so important for believers to know that God is on His throne, His reign is eternal, and justice will prevail.
The world is in a precarious state; ecological and economic disasters and man’s stockpiling of weapons of mass destruction threaten us all. Why have the weapons at all unless we intend to use them? Who is going to be the one to say to the whole world, “Disarm them and dismantle them”? Are the Chinese, the Russians and the Americans going to listen? One day the Lord God will give the command, He will establish justice and the only reason that none of these terrors has been unleashed is because He withholds His hand of judgement. But listen out world, He has established His throne, He will sit upon it and every ear will hear His verdict!
